Waves and Malta shake hands in blockchain collaboration
The ‘Blockchain Island’ aims to adopt the platform for government and corporal sectors
Russian blockchain platform Waves has announced it will be collaborating with the government of Malta for potential applications of its technology in various sectors within the territory, according to an official press release.
CEO of Waves Sasha Ivanov held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Malta, Joseph Muscat to discuss about the potential uses of the platform in various fields, such as healthcare, land registry and voting. They also discussed the possibility of using the project “as a platform for tokenized financial instruments.”
“We are interested in this accreditation and are ready to start working with Malta’s legal experts to bring our ready-to-use blockchain solutions here: Waves for the financial sector and Vostok for the government and corporate sectors,” Ivanov said.
For his part, Muscat commented:
“Over the last months, the Maltese government has actively solved how to position Malta as a major hub in terms of the digital economy, which will play a central role in the economic sustainability of the years to come. The Maltese government has legislated three acts that will provide legal certainty to this space, involving DLT and digital financial products and services such as virtual currencies and ICOs.”
Waves in the Blockchain Island
The government of Malta is one of the few states displaying a completely supportive stance towards cryptocurrencies and blockchain, with several projects moving on to the island due to its crypto-friendly policy and the State’s willingness to lend them a hand and cooperate with these startups. This has earned it the nickname “Blockchain Island.”
Per the post, it seems that this first meeting was successful, and both parties are expecting future discussions, eyeing to the possibility of granting Waves the accreditation to work within the Maltese territory.
