Vitalik Buterin believes Ethereum has had a “massive” development

The heated discussion at Twitter goes on

Yesterday, we reported about a controversial debate going on popular social network Twitter, in which several users criticized Ethereum’s co-founder Vitalik Buterin, among other things, for pumping certain altcoins thanks to the pre-mined Ether (ETH) he’s holding in his wallet.

To these critics, he responded that there has been a lot of development on the blockchain, in the last 15 months. So much, that he believes the project could keep going without him around – adding even more controversy to the heated discussion, and putting people to speculate about a possible depature of Buterin from the blockchain he helped to create.

In regards to such developments, a user asked him about those big changes supposedly seen over the course of the last 15 months, to which Buterin responded by stating 4 major updates.

“1. Casper/sharding spec roughly finished, now in refinement stages.
2. 4+ implementations of the spec well underway.
3. Many implementations of plasma well underway.
4. ZK-SNARK-based layer 2 scaling and privacy well underway.”

He added that the difference is pretty much evident, considering the time span in which these developments are occurring.

Ethereum 2.0, Constantinople, and more

Certainly, there have been major developments undergoing for the second most valuable blockchain project by market cap. For example, since the announcement of “Ethereum 2.0”, several developers has been working enthusiastically to realize Vitalik’s vision of a new version that addresses all current problems in the blockchain protocol. Rocket Pool, Sigma Prime, Prysmatic Labs, Status and PegaSys are some of them.

Part of their development are focused on second-layer scaling solutions such as Sharding and Plasma, as well as the long-awaited consensus algorithm switch, from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake.

On the other hand, we have Constantinople, a major upgrade for Ethereum which is due to launch on the Testnet next October 14. This hard fork will include five different Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), not really noticeable for the end user, but very important nonetheless, because they will pave the way to the scaling roadmap
