Opera’s desktop browser rolled out a beta version with Ethereum support
A mobile versions has been already launched a couple months ago
Opera, one of the five most used browsers in the world, has released a beta version of their popular browser that has native support for Ethereum. The announcement was made via Opera’s official blog and it was made available to private testers.
According to the post, this implementation will enable users to completely interact with the Ethereum Network, that is, they will be able to send and receive Ether – Ethereum’s native token – as well as other Ethereum-based tokens, transfer collectibles such as the popular Cryptokitties, and engage with all the Dapps currently available in this blockchain.
This is the second implementation of the Ethereum network Opera does in any of its products. A couple months ago, they announced full support for this technology on the mobile version of the browser, available for Android. This posed a notable milestone, as Opera is currently used by approx. 3.5 % of all users on the Internet, and specifically, it accounts for a 4.57% of the total mobile browser market share.
Speaking of the mobile version, one interesting feature involves how the user will manage the desktop version with their mobile browser. According to the post, they will have to pair their mobile Opera crypto wallet with the desktop browser to be able to sign any transaction or message by confirming it via fingerprint, or other security measure.
This procedure involves using the mobile browser to scan a QR code provided by the desktop version, thus linking the crypto wallet. However, they did not specified if this is mandatory or optional.
Another fact is that for as long as the beta testing phase lasts, the labs version will be installed separately from the stable version.
